A Guide To Adding Widgets To The Android Home Screen

Widgets are small web apps that retrieve and display information from the web. They are one of the best features put into Google Android 1.5. This is a simple set of instructions for adding widgets towards the home screen of any Android device.

1. Visit the home screen of the Android device (Press the “Home” key).

2. Ensure that there is enough free space in your home screen for the new widget.

3. Choose a clear space for your widget. Tap the area and hold your finger there (long press) before the menu appears. Alternatively, you are able to press the “Menu” button after which press the “Add” button which should now be available on the screen.

4. Each method should have resulted in a pop-up menu-window labeled Add by screen”. Tap the menu item labeled “Widgets”.

5. Travel through the list of installed widgets and choose the one you want to place on the house screen. You can scroll with the widgets if the list is simply too large to fit on the screen as a whole.

6. Click on the selected widget and you'll add it to your home screen.

7. Press the “Home” key. The brand new widget should appear on the house screen (or wallpaper).

8. To relocate the widget, tap it and hold your finger down. You now should be able to drag it towards the location on the screen that you want.

When you choose you no longer need a widget, to free space or since you are done using it, removing it's even simpler.
1. Tap the widget you need to remove and hold your finger down. The trashcan icon should show up on the Applications Menu (or “slider”) at the end of the screen.

2. Drag the widget towards the trash can until both the widget and also the trash can turn red.
